Sweat Comes In Many Forms

I'm not gay, but if I were Clint Eastwood would have been at the top of my "to do" list if I was 30 years younger. A large part of that attraction is his life long dedication to staying fit, which doesn't necessarily equate to long hours in a gym, but rather a commitment to doing something active every day.

Today that activity will be mowing the lawn, which my wife and I have turned into a "Green Workout" this summer by utilizing only non gas powered tools to maintain our lawn. Utilizing a human powered push mower burns roughly 500 calories per hour, coupled with all people powered edging and trimming equates to a net sum loss of about 700 calories, or the equivalent of biking for an hour at 11.5 miles per hour!!

What I love most about the green workout is that on top of saving mom nature, we are utilizing muscle groups that wouldn't necessarily be engaged in a typical gym workout. It's functional training with the added benefit of a nicely manicured lawn.

Food for thought; how much gas/resources could you save in conjunction with unclogged arteries and trimmer waistlines by doing your own "Green Workout"?
